Dancing Chopin – The most beautiful pieces of Chopin’s music interpreted by extraordinary pianist IGOR LIPINSKI and electrifying dancing by eight of the members of AL Dancers modern ballet company.

This award winning, classically trained, modern dance company is based in Portland, Oregon and has achieved great success under the direction and choreography of Agnieszka  Laska.   As a choreographer, Agnieszka is known for creating provocative fresh works enjoyed by audiences across the United States, Poland, and Mexico.  Her many years of dancing and vast experience have prepared her to be one of the noted stars in the exclusive professional dance industry.
To the dance company’s recent acclaim, AL Dancers have been asked to perform in place of the Joffrey Ballet when they were unavailable.  Wow!
Igor Lipinski . . . think “child prodigy” with unlimited natural talent!  Originally from Poland, Lipinski received the Grand Prix Award at the Paderewski Competition for Young Pianists in Kasna Dolna, Poland at the age of 12. Lipinski first visited the United States in 2004 at the invitation of Dr. Kazimierz Braun, Professor of Theatre at the University at Buffalo, to play a featured role of a young pianist in a world premiere of “Paderewski’s Children” – a theatre play based on the life of the piano virtuoso and the prime minister of Poland, Ignace Jan Paderewski – where he received the Grand Prix Award in Piano Category.
Lipinski earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Piano Performance, Literature and Musical Arts at the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester.  He is currently working on his doctoral thesis at Northwestern University and will be in Chicago for approximately one year.
The Copernicus Foundation is proud to sponsor this spectacular first-of-its-kind event at the Copernicus Center.
Enthusiastically received by critics and their audiences, here are just a few of the Critic Reviews:
  • “Sensitivity to the music, no matter how fractious, is a hallmark of the Laska style and this production is no exception.”  May 2013, Oregon Arts Watch
  • “The concert was met with great enthusiasm by the audience, a sold-out house and a standing ovation.“ June 2013, New York Classical
  • Igor Lipinski - ”As a pianist on the cusp of his career, Igor Lipinski holds a special card in his hands.  His performances are magical. Literally.”  Buffalo News, January 2013.
